Tom Nachreiner: Figuring It Out
June 3- August 30, 2015

A lifelong resident of Wisconsin, Tom Nachreiner inherited his creative spirit from his parents who encouraged his artistic interests. After graduating from Verona High School, Nachreiner went on to receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with highest honors from Layton School of Art in Milwaukee.

Since 1978, Nachreiner has been a self-employed artist, both as a nationally-recognized illustrator and a fine artist. He has been accepted into the New York Society of Illustrators Show three times and started his own illustration company, Art Factory, Ltd.

In recent years he has made a shift toward fine art, first with watercolor and gouache on paper and then oil on canvas or linen. Tom’s impressionistic style of oil painting utilizes bold, colorful brushstrokes as well as rich detail to capture light and movement. His subject matter includes landscapes, cityscapes, and more recently, figurative pieces.

Tom conducts year-round plein air and studio workshops. He is a member of Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society. Tom has garnered many awards for his work and is a three-time “Best of Show” winner of Cedarburg Plein Air. He has also won "Best of Show" at Shorewood Plein Air and the Door County Plein Air Festival. In 2013 Tom received the Dorothy Driehaus Mellin Foundation Award at the 22nd National Juried Oil Painters of America Exhibition.

Artist’s Statement: "I approach every painting as though it is a sketch, squinting, standing back, seeing and first painting only the shapes, values, and temperature of color, always putting most of my effort into trying to capture a convincing feeling of light with a  dynamic composition and not spending too much time on fussy detail."
