Bonnie Paruch: A Brush with Life
May 7 - August 31, 2014

Door County artist Bonnie Paruch likes to express emotion and a sense of wonder about  nature in her paintings. Her interpretations start with nature but often verge on abstraction.    “In essence I consider myself a story teller.  For me, a successful painting goes beyond recording the facts –a camera can do that.   My goal in painting is to create a personal expression filled with emotion, a story left to interpretation.”

Impressionist painter Bonnie Paruch has been a professional artist and workshop instructor for over 30 years.  Originally from West Bend, she began painting early in her childhood, finding the outdoors to be a constant source for inspiration.   Paruch relocated to Door County in 2006, where she currently has her own studio and gallery. She teaches workshops at Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek, The Clearing in Ellison Bay, and other places throughout the Midwest.

In her own words: “The beauty of northeast Wisconsin is definitely on display in my work; the light, lake shore, small villages, fishing boats, urban and rural life scenes are images that set my brushes and pastels in motion!”

“My major influences are the artists whose work I admire and have studied within the large collection of art books I own and treasure.  I am particularly drawn to the Russian Impressionists and the American and Canadian Post Impressionists as well as the Nabi and modern artists of the early - mid 1900's.”

Bonnie Paruch is an award-winning participant in several Plein Air competitions, including Tucson Plein Air, Door County Plein Air, Rocky Mountain Plein Air, and Cedarburg Plein Air.  A signature member of the Pastel Society of America, her work has been juried five times in the PSA National shows, earning three awards.  Her first book, A Brush with Life , was published in 2013
