The tradition of painting from life outdoors is referred to as painting En Plein Air, in reference to the artists’ act of creating art in the open air.
Cedarburg has a long history of attracting artists to capture its idyllic landscapes and charming community, going back to the late 19th century.
The Cedarburg Artists Guild has bolstered the city’s connection to Plein Air with the establishment of the Plein Air festival in 2001.
Join local artists including Sandra Pape, Susan Hale, and Mary Mayhew for a discussion on the legacy of Plein Air in Cedarburg and the impact of the competition. Curator of the Cedarburg Art Museum, Nikki Ranney, will moderate.
